Join South Dakota State Parks for a Run for the Trees – Happy Little 5K park meet-up! This Bob Ross–inspired virtual 5K encourages participants to get outside, enjoy nature, and support tree planting and forest protection in South Dakota state parks.

Participants are invited to gather at the Big Sioux Recreation Area's Gazebo to complete their 5K together in a fun, welcoming atmosphere. Walk, run, jog, stroll, or roll—this event is open to all ages and abilities. The route will follow park trails, allowing participants to experience and celebrate our outdoor spaces.

Important registration information:
Registration fee is $36 for the official Run for the Trees event—and to receive the Bob Ross swag packet (T-shirt, finisher medal, and race bib)—must be completed online by April 1, 2026, at: https://runsignup.com/happylittletrees

This is a virtual 5K, so participants may also complete their 5K on their own anytime during the event window, but this meet-up offers a chance to enjoy the experience together in a state park setting.

Race proceeds support tree planting and forest protection in South Dakota state parks.

Big Sioux Recreation Area's Meet up location will be at the Gazebo. Please arrive 20 minutes early for the 10:00am start time. There will be directional signs and maps available for the route.
