What are the details of the Kids Cross Country Meets?

When: The first 3 Wednesday’s of September every year.

Where: Morningside Park (2500 S Bahnson Ave, Sioux Falls, SD 57103)

Cost: FREE

Distances: There are three distances available for different age groups.

1st Grade and younger - .25 mile (4:30pm)

2nd-3rd Grade - .50 mile (4:37pm)

4th-6th Grade - 1 mile (4:45pm)

Time: Registration starts at 4pm with the 1st grade and younger race starting at 4:30pm. Immediately following that race the 2nd and 3rd graders run. Lastly, the 4th-6th graders will run the 1 mile race. All races are done prior to 5pm.

Do I need to register my child/ren?

Yes, registration takes place starting at 4pm in the picnic shelter. Simply fill out a waiver for your child/ren (all kids can be on one sheet) and you’re set! Fill it out once and participate in all 3 weeks!

Where do I park?

There is parking in the Harvey Dunn School lot and along 33rd street and adjacent neighborhood.

Do the kids get anything for running?

All kids finishing the race will get a popsicle as they cross the finish line. Sometimes we get extra medals from various sources and we give those out to the kids until they are gone.

What’s the course?

The courses are simply marked with field paint and marking flags in the grass. Pictures are below.

What if there is adverse weather?

We will run unless there is heavy rains or lightning. Watch social media for the Sioux Falls Area Running Club and Sioux Falls Parks and Rec for the most up-to-date information.

How can I help?

We always appreciate parents cheering on all the runners and if you can, watch the corners to make sure all the kids navigate them properly. Stop and see us at the timing clock if you’d like to be stationed at a corner for the races.
